Apple Can Cement Its $5 Trillion Status on July 27

AAPL briefly crossed $5 trillion intraday ahead of July 30 earnings, where prediction markets put an 89% probability on iPhone clearing $52B.

Tim Cook's final complete quarter hands John Ternus either a $5 trillion springboard or a multiple under pressure from rising memory costs.

Investors are watching Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) ahead of fiscal third-quarter results due Thursday, July 30, after the close. Shares briefly crossed $5 trillion in market value yesterday, tagging $342 intraday before closing at $336.91. This print needs to justify the run.

Last quarter set a high bar. Apple posted revenue of $111.18 billion, up 16.6% year over year, with diluted EPS of $2.10 up 22% and a gross margin of 49.3%. iPhone revenue hit $56.99 billion on the iPhone 17 cycle, and Services rang an all-time record at $30.98 billion.

Two things changed after that report. First, Tim Cook announced he will step aside effective September 1, with hardware chief John Ternus succeeding him as CEO. Second, the board authorized a fresh $100 billion buyback and a 4% dividend increase. Shares are up 24.16% year to date and 58.15% over one year.

Q3 FY26 will be measured against last year's June quarter. Segment benchmarks from Q3 FY25:

Prediction markets imply high confidence in beats: 89.5% probability iPhone revenue clears $52B and 84.5% probability Greater China clears $18B.

I'll be watching gross margin first. Management guided the June quarter to 47.5% to 48.5%, citing seasonal deleverage and significantly higher memory costs partially offset by carry-in inventory. Cook warned memory pressure will build beyond June, so any commentary about pricing offsets or mix will move the stock.

Second, Mac. Cook flagged that Mac mini, Mac Studio, and MacBook Neo were supply-constrained, with the Neo demand described as "off the charts." That is a good problem, but it caps June upside. You should look at whether management signals when supply-demand balance returns.

Third, Services. Two straight all-time records make this the highest-multiple piece of the story. Services gross margin ran at 76.7% last quarter, and Maps ads launch this summer. Any deceleration would sting.

Fourth, Apple Intelligence. Cook framed AI as "woven into the core of our platforms" rather than a standalone product, with Personalized Siri still slated for later in 2026. That soft-integration pitch, is central to why the stock rerated.

This is Cook's final complete quarter running Apple, and it lands right as the $5 trillion threshold comes into view. If iPhone momentum holds, Services prints another record, and margins land near the high end of guidance, the handoff to Ternus starts from strength. If memory costs bite harder than modeled, the multiple has less room. Thursday tells us which version of the story sticks.
