Judge blocks Trumpâs order aimed at using USPS to restrict mail-in voting
Ruling expands on earlier order that prevented implementation in 23 mostly Democratic-led states
A federal judge on Tuesday blocked â the US Postal â Service â(USPS) from implementing part of Donald Trumpâs executive order that aims â to tighten rules for mail-in voting ahead of November midterm elections that â will decide control of Congress.
The ruling by âUS district âjudge Indira âTalwani in Boston in effect expanded on an âearlier order she had issued in June that had prevented Trumpâs administration from implementing it in 23 mostly Democratic-led states.
Several voting rights groups had âurged her to go further and prevent USPS from implementing anywhere âin the nation a proposed rule requiring states to provide lists of voters and adopt new balloting procedures before â the mail agency would make deliveries.

If states âdid ânot comply, USPS âwould have refused to deliver âthe ballots. The âplaintiffs had âcontended âUSPS would have no legal basis for such a refusal.
